A canopy built at Westcliff Primary School, in Crawford Avenue, Bispham, will mean its youngest pupils will now be able to sit down for class outside even in rainy weather. It was opened by Blackpool mayor Coun Ian Coleman on Monday, and welcomed by headteacher Amanda Stokes. Mayor of Blackpool Coun Ian Coleman opens the new outdoor learning area She said: “When I took over in January 2017, the first thing I wanted to do was develop the capacity for outdoor learning in Early Years. There was no undercover space outside, so whenever it rained, pupils had to come inside. “We are absolutely thrilled with the design and the finish of the canopy. Our pupils are so excited and can’t wait to start learning outside.” The £60,000 canopy was designed by Cassidy and Ashton architects. It was built by Parkinsons of Preston. Alana Frith, chairman of the governors, said: “It is wonderful to see the improvement. Children’s learning will certainly be enhanced through all the learning areas that staff have created.”
